Flax Council of Canada

The Flax Council of Canada is a national organization which promotes Canadian flax and flax products for nutritional and industrial uses in domestic and international markets.

Alberta Biomaterials Development Centre

The Alberta Biomaterials Development Centre (ABDC), an innovation and commercialization leader in the growing field of agriculture and forestry based biomaterials, was launched in June 2009.

Saskatchewan Flax Development Commission

SFDC represents more than 15,000 flax producers in Saskatchewan. They invest in research, communications and market facilitation activities to further develop the flax industry in Saskatchewan.

Manitoba Environmental Industries Association

The Manitoba Environmental Industries Association (MEIA) is a non-profit organization that is committed to connecting business, government and interested stakeholders with environmental issues and opportunities.

Ontario BioAuto Council

The council’s focus is biomaterials, such as flexible bio-based foams for car seats and woodfibre composites for automotive and construction applications. With a $5-million investment fund from the Government of Ontario, the council is providing support for biomaterials ventures and commercialization.

Alternative Village – University of Manitoba

The Straw-Bale Building on the University of Manitoba campus was just the starting phase for The Alternative Village. This facility exists to provide researchers, students, practitioners, industry and the public opportunities to share ideas and learn about the choices we have surrounding energy and building strategies outside current conventionally available options.

Crop Development Centre – University of Saskatchewan

The Crop Development Centre (CDC) is a field crop research organization within the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Saskatchewan.

NDSU – Flax Institute

The aim of the Flax Institute is to bring national and international researchers with an interest in flax together to share and learn about flax research.

Canadian Hemp Trade Alliance

A non-profit national group of hemp processors, marketers, farmers, and information specialists.

NRC – Biotechnology Research Institute

The National Research Council Biotechnology Research Institute (NRC-BRI) conducts research on health, bioprocess and environment.

This annual research-sharing event for flax researchers, processors, buyers, producers, and consumers will take place March 29-30, 2012 at the Doublewood Inn in Fargo, North Dakota.

5th Annual Biomass Workshop
Expert panels in the morning will discuss key issues in biomass production and use, including public policies such as the emission tax on coal and biomass support. They have also invited utilities to talk about biomass heat and power opportunities. Following the morning panel discussions, afternoon tours will provide the opportunities to see woody biomass handling and combustion for heat and/or power generation on the nursery site.
